Issue Summary

This is not the news KLM wanted to hear. A Dutch court ruling means flight activity at Amsterdam’s airport will likely be capped at a level well below what it was handling before the pandemic. In one sense, KLM could benefit as constricted supply drives up yields. But Amsterdam Schiphol is not London Heathrow. Its local market is much smaller, heightening its dependence on connecting passengers. And as this week’s feature story about Qatar Airways and its Doha hub makes clear, connecting passengers have options.
